This is a photograph of Dad, Dr. Frank J. Honan, taken in 1979. I was a college student at the time. Everyday Dad would sit at the kitchen table doing his crossword puzzle. He had his magnifying glass, dictionary and specialized crossword puzzle dictionary. Pete in the bird cage would be whistling along. At the time it seemed to me like this daily practice would go on for ever. Now, from this perspective, forty plus years later, I understand it doesn't. I was happy to find this today as I was looking through old negatives. I thought about the beauty in our daily rituals. Then I thought about how Dad's attitudes and beliefs have been carried on through the long web of family.
